Safety First

PaddlPass stations are self-serve and open 24/7. Before you head out, please take a minute to review these guidelines. They’ll help keep you safe and make sure the next paddler has a great experience too.

Before you book

PaddlPass equipment is designed for leisure paddling in calm, sheltered water.  It’s not suitable for extreme weather or whitewater.

You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim. PFDs (personal flotation devices AKA life jackets) are provided at every station.

Check that your PFD is rated for your weight before heading out.

Do not paddle during storms, high winds, or lightning. If conditions change while you’re on the water, head back early.

Before You Paddle

  • Let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to be back
  • Check the weather forecast before heading out
  • Bring water, sunscreen, and dress for the conditions
  • Wear your PFD at all times
  • Check the weight limit for your kayak or SUP before booking. (Weight limits vary by watercraft and are shown at booking. Please check before reserving.)
  • No alcohol or drugs before or during your rental
  • Practice getting back onto your board or into your kayak before leaving shallow water
  • Stay clear of motorboat traffic
  • Daylight hours only

Emergency situations

If something goes wrong on the water, get to shore and call emergency services immediately. Emergency contact information is posted at every PaddlPass station.

If you see another paddler in distress, call for help rather than attempting a rescue unless you are trained to do so.

After you paddle

Please return all equipment, PFDs, and paddles to the correct slot and lock it up using the code from your booking confirmation.

If you notice any damage or issues with the equipment, report it to the operator using the contact information on the station signage or in your booking confirmation.

Don’t leave damaged equipment without reporting it. The next paddler is counting on it being in good shape.
